Mr. Overturf holds a Master of Music degree from Memphis State University (now University of Memphis).  He received his Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Wisconsin - Oshkosh in 1979 and continued his viola studies with William Preucil at the University of Iowa from 1980-1982.

Prior to joining the Memphis Symphony, Mr. Overturf was a member of the Orquesta Sinfonia del Estado de Mexico and the Shreveport Symphony. 

Besides being a violist with the Memphis Symphony, Mr. Overturf also works in physical therapy at Methodist University Hospital and has also worked at UT Bowld Hospital.
