Ms. Chiego is married to University of Memphis Bass professor John Chiego, and they regularly perform in their quartet, Memphis Bass Thing.
The Chiegos have three sons, Chris, Andrew, and Peter.
Sara Chiego began her career as a professional bass player with the Arkansas Symphony at the age of 14, after having played the instrument for only two years. Born in Lahore, West Pakistan, Ms. Chiego attended
Ms. Chiego volunteers at Richland Elementary as a tutor, and for the Lupus Foundation. She is also on the Reading Committee at First Unitarian Church.
Northwestern University for two years before tranferring to the University of Memphis to complete her Bachelors degree in music performance. She earned her Masters degree from the Cincinnati College- Conservatory of Music.
In addition to her work with the Memphis Symphony, Ms. Chiego teaches at Rhodes College and in her own private studio. She is a member of the International Society of Bassists and the American String Teachers Association, and the Beethoven Club.
Ms. Chiego played in the Arkansas Youth Symphony as a young person and was a Beethoven Club Young Artists Competition winner in 1987.
