Violinist Susanna Perry Gilmore has been Concertmaster, or leader of the string section, for the Memphis Symphony since 1997.
Ms. Gilmore was born in Buffalo, NY, and began to play the violin when she was eight years old. She played in youth symphonies in
Nashville, TN and Leeds, England. To prepare for her job with the symphony, Ms. Gilmore went to Oxford University in England and New England Conservatory in Boston, MA. In addition to her job with the symphony, Ms. Gilmore was Professor of Violin and a member of the Ceruti Quartet at the University of Memphis for two years.
Outside of the symphony, Ms. Gilmore plays Celtic music in a band called Planet Reel. Her husband, Barry Gilmore, a teacher at Lausanne Academy, also plays in Planet Reel. Ms. Gilmore also enjoys reading, exercising, and watching movies, and most of all, spending time with her daughter, Kathryn Elisabeth.
