Susan Rice, Cello
First Season with the MSO: 2004-05
Some facts about Susan

Her hobbies: swimming, running, reading, parenting, and cooking
If I hadn't become a musician: I would have liked to have been a pediatrician, or own a bed and breakfast
Her favorite books:  The Kite Runner, West With the Night, Music for Chameleons
Her favorite Memphis Restaurants: Mayruri, Buckley's, and El Mezcal
Worst non-musical job:  My worst job, by far, was a debt collector, for the obvious reasons  (Although a close second was Mc Donald's).
Her most influential teacher: Steven Doane
Her earliest musical memory:  Singing with her mother and Bach's "Toccata and Fugue"
composer
What she listens to in the car:  NPR , and hip hop for the head-nod factor of my son, Reese.
What she enjoys most about performing:The breathing of life into a historical work, which is an odyssey for the listener and performer.  I love that we are resurrecting a moment of musical conception.  It is a privilege to add to the legions.
I love to strive for my personal best in each melodic phrase.
Besides performing great music, the symphony's most important role is:  To create something of beauty for those who will listen.
